ABOUT ME

Krysia Teodorczuk - Clinical Psychologist

My life journey has involved multiple careers, life changing events, and personal growth and development resulting in my current fulfilling position as a clinical psychologist registered with the Health Professional Council of South Africa (HPCSA) and the Board of Heath Funders of South Africa (BHF). Well over a decade after achieving my undergraduate BSc degree at Rand Afrikaans University (RAU), I returned to complete my BA Honours and Masters degrees at the University of Johannesburg (UJ).

I practiced as a student psychologist at Akeso Clinic and Helen Joseph Hospital. Thereafter, I completed my internship at Sterkfontein Hospital and year of Community Service at Chris Hani Baragwaneth Academic Hospital. These environments allowed me to gain experience working with children, adolescents and adults, and offered exposure to a diverse population presenting with a wide range of problems. In these clinical settings I was able to work with patients presenting with conditions, including but not exclusive to, mental and physical illness, forensic psychopathology, challenging familial and relational circumstance, abuse and neglect, substance and alcohol related afflictions, severe socio-economic and psychosocial stressors, as well as physical and emotional trauma. My gained experience in these settings was diverse, intensive and irreplaceable.

As a licensed clinical psychologist, I currently work in private practice in Linden, Johannesburg. My areas of interest, among others include:
  • Working through and with trauma (physical, emotional, acute [single incident], chronic, and complex trauma)
  • Psychotic, mood and anxiety disorders
  • Relational and attachment difficulties
  • Emotional dysregulation
  • Loss and bereavement
  • Adjustment to life changing circumstance
  • Strength focused interventions

In addition to my interest in therapeutic and clinical practice, I have enjoyed engaging in research and academic writing. My research within the framework of positive psychology allowed me to provide interventions aimed at enhancing wellbeing and hope among adolescents within a clinical setting - this article is available here. I have also been afforded the privilege of having a chapter published in an academic work with focus psychotherapeutic case studies and techniques. The completed chapter explored and demonstrated a trauma focused case study, and is titled: “Rape and sexual violence in South Africa: A case study of trauma”.
