RATES AND MEDICAL AID CLAIMS
Consultation fees are charged at medical aid rates. I am contracted out of medical aid; this means that clients pay directly for sessions (cash or electronic transfer), and are issued with an invoice that can be submitted to medical aids for reimbursement. Payments must be made on a sessional basis, with accounts to be settled on or before each consultation.
These rates are in line with what medical aids cover for psychological services. Please note that the responsibility rests on the client to contact their medical aid to inquire about the benefits their medical aid plan provides for psychological treatment. A limited number of reduced rate slots are periodically made available. Assistance for financially disadvantaged individuals is considered on an individual basis. Please Contact the practice for further information. HOW LONG IS A THERAPY SESSION?
A standard psychotherapy session is typically 50 minutes. Occasionally, on mutual agreement, longer sessions may be arranged for initial consultations with a child and their family, couples or families.
HOW FREQUENT ARE THERAPY SESSIONS?
Generally, sessions are scheduled once a week at a regular established time. However, frequency and scheduling of appointments that best suit the client can be discussed and arranged.
HOW MANY SESSIONS WILL I NEED?
The number of sessions necessary will vary depending on the client’s individual circumstance and/or diagnosis. Duration of treatment is also influenced by a client's readiness for change, commitment to treatment, and openness to new adaptive ways of thinking and behaving.
The initial sessions of therapy serve to gain a thorough understanding of the client’s history and circumstance that has brought them to therapy, and to build a relationship that is authentic, trusting, warm, transparent, boundaried, positive, and professional. Following these sessions, a mutually agreed on treatment plan outlining a proposed course of treatment will be discussed; this can be revisited from time to time. DO YOU OFFER THERAPY ONLINE?
I am open to conducting psychotherapy sessions via Zoom in certain cases. Recent studies show online therapy can be just as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy. Importantly however, confidentiality cannot be guaranteed with any form of electric communication. Confidentiality can be better protected when sessions are delivered in person in a private setting.
CANCELLATION OF APPOINTMENTS
Should you wish to change or cancel an appointment please do so 24-hours prior to your session. Failure to do so will result in you being liable for payment for the missed session as the space could have been filled by another client who may be waiting to get an appointment.
CONFIDENTIALITY
Confidentiality is an important part of the therapeutic relationship and information shared will be kept strictly confidential, and may not be disclosed without the clients written consent. However, the law stipulates certain limits to confidentiality. More specifically, I am under obligation to break confidentiality under the following circumstances:
